Alice Springs to Darwin Railway

IPA staff previously worked on regulation issues relating to the Alice Springs to Darwin railway, which provides a ‘land bridge’ to compete with port operations in SE Australia.

This included assessment of the cost structure, likely returns and future prospects for shipping between SE Australia and Australia. A detailed financial model of the likely future costs and revenues was constructed to explore likely profitability as an input to the development of the new regulatory system.
